St. Luke Lutheran Church was established in 2002 by a merger of two prior congregations: Living Word Lutheran Church in Jonesboro and Abundant Grace Lutheran Church in McDonough. We were later joined by former members of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Forest Park. This new congregation represents a continuation of decades of ministry on the south side of metro Atlanta.
We began worshipping in a storefront before renting our current space on Brannan from another congregation. In 2017, God blessed St. Luke by allowing us to purchase the building.
Our current pastor, the Rev. Andrew Lewis, joined us in January 2025.
St. Luke is a congregation of the Southeastern Synod, under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Kevin Strickland, and a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), led by Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry.
The ELCA has more than 3.8 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across the 50 states and in the Caribbean region. With roots in the writings of sixteenth-century church reformer Martin Luther, the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians, and service in the world.
